Trowbridge Viking Ancestry

The Trowbridge lineage has deep Scandinavian roots starting with the daughter of “Rollo the Viking”. Rollo, banished from Norway, invaded France in 886 and was awarded the Duchy of Normandy by King Chares III (the Simple) of France in 911. The line goes back to Njord of Nortun, King of the Swedes, born 214? AD. Njord is the 63rd great grandfather of Arthur D. Steele Jr.

Bold names are used to help indicate the primary lineage person. Sometimes the lineage veers off to the mother’s ancestry. Before year 1000 AD there was not always a surname involved and in the case of Nordic descendents the Surname was a –son or –dottir modification of the fathers given name. The son of Ivar Neilsson would be named Erik Ivarsson and his daughter would be named Sonja Ivarsdottir, with the “surname” changing every generation. There are extra words to guide you through the confusing Nordic names.
